It's Homecoming.....Go Cadets!!!

Happy Homecoming Week Everyone!  We will have a shortened week this week, with many activities coming up.  Let's see what we have going on in 6B.....

To show school spirit for Homecoming, we will be having "dress up" days each day this week.
Tuesday, Sept. 20       Goofy/Crazy Day (dress as weird as you like)
Wednesday, Sept. 21   Team Jersey/Favorite Team
(wear clothes to support your favorite team)
Thursday, Sept. 22      Hats & Shades Day
Friday, Sept. 23           BLUE AND WHITE DAY (wear school colors)

This year, there has been a change in the Homecoming schedule.  Rather than dismissing at 12:20 PM, students will be dismissed at 2:20 PM.   As stated in the note from Mrs. Grimm, "The parade will take place at 1:30.  The parade will start at the high school and proceed in front of the high school, then loop in front of the Elementary/JH before proceeding downtown.  The elementary students will be watching the parade from in front of the elementary building.  No candy will be thrown to the elementary students.  If your child will be in the parade they need to be signed out by a parent and then they become the parent’s responsibility for the remainder of the day.  They do not need to return to school.  Students cannot be in the parade without the parent either picking them up and signing them out or the parent giving written permission to the classroom teacher for another adult to pick them up and sign them out.  The student then becomes that adult’s responsibility.  If that adult is bringing them back to school to catch the bus home, they need to be back to school no later than 2:20 and they need to sign in at the office.  Route buses will leave at 2:30.  After the conclusion of the parade, elementary students will return to their classrooms with their teacher and be dismissed at 2:20 following normal procedures."  Please contact either Linda or myself if you have any questions.  Go Cadets!

Our first field trip will take place on Thursday, September 22nd.  We will be traveling to the Nature Center for Environmental Awareness Day.  Students will attend the following sessions: a Stream Table Activity, Water Testing, Orienteering, and a Habitat Activity.  We will be leaving the school at 9:30 AM and returning to school at 1:30 PM.  Most students chose to bring their own sack lunch, while others are having a school supplied sack lunch.  However, I am encouraging all students to bring extra water to drink.  Because we will be outside for the majority of the day, students should also dress in layers and wear tennis shoes.  Thanks!

On Tuesday, I will be sending home book orders for the month of September.  A letter is attached to the book orders, and it explains how to order the books online.  You can go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and use the class code of GQLKG to order the books.  If you would rather write a check for your order, please make checks payable to "Scholastic Book Clubs."  Book orders are due Tuesday, September 27th.  Thank you!

Lastly, next week we will some more events/activities coming up.  On Tuesday, September 27th, Max Garcia, a Holocaust survivor, will be coming and speaking with our 6th graders.  He will also present to the community that evening.  I have attached a flyer with more information about that evening.  Also, we will be MAPS testing later next week.  Keep an eye on next week's blog post for the testing schedule and testing suggestions.  Thanks in advance!
