In the Routine

Hey, all!  Isn't it hard to believe that it is already mid-September?  Where has the last three weeks gone?  We have been very busy with our routines and busy with starting our 6th-grade curriculum, so it is no wonder why the time has flown by.

Students completed the STEM Olympics last week and had a great time doing it.  Students worked well with their teams and were creative in their designs.  We are wrapping up the events' results and will have a mini-presentation for the gold, silver, and bronze "medalists."  (Obviously, our medal ceremony will not be nearly as elaborate as the one in Rio!)

We also wrapped up reviewing reading genres in literacy.  There were a couple of assignments the students completed to help them review the reading genres and to help them prepare for the quiz yesterday.  We will go over the quiz results on Monday, and then you can look for it to come home with your child that night.

Last week was our first week of documenting any office referrals.  Nearly all of the office referrals that were documented were because of students' late homework.  Students that are in band receive three study halls a week, and students not in band receive a study hall every day.  Any work that is not completed in study hall, is expected to be completed at night for homework.  If you are unsure if your child has homework for the night, just ask to see his/her planner.  If you or your child would like to use "Study Group" after school, just let me know.  Study Group takes place on Monday-Thursday, from 3:30-5:00.  Your child would need to have permission from you to stay for Study Group, and he/she would have to arrange a ride home.  Please let me know if you are interested in your child staying for Study Group.

Next week will be Homecoming Week!  Go Blue!  I will send home more information about Homecoming "dress-up" days later this week.  There will be a 1-hour early dismissal on Friday, September 23rd, for Homecoming.  Please plan accordingly.

Lastly, there will be one other form of communication that will be shared with you and that is through a 6th grade Facebook page.  This page will share photos from all of the 6th graders, not just from our homeroom.  It will share photos from literacy, science, math, writing, and any other activities that we do together.  Come and follow us at https://www.facebook.com/6cadets.  Don't forget the other ways to communicate with me or with our class:
