Hello, 6th grade students and families! It
was so awesome to speak with each individual family at our "Back to School
Conferences" last week. How cool was that? I just loved
touching base with each of you and getting to know your family.
Needless to say, our
first day of school was a bit unexpected! Who would have thought that the
first day of school would be cancelled due to weather? So, our first day
turned into "Day 2," but the students have adjusted quite easily to
the 6-Day schedule. We have had a couple of busy days, with a lot of
discussion about routines, rules, routines, rules.... (We have had some
fun and laughs in there too!) We participated in a get-to-know-you
activity using Skittles, so that was delicious. This week, we will begin
with a couple of other get-to-know-you activities, where we will create a 10
inch tower using only notecards and then we will create a digital class book
using Google Slides. How fun!
We are also building our
classroom/grade community by having a 6th grade kickball tournament. We
started the tournament on Friday, and it will continue into this week.
Students are not only getting exercise but using positive
communication skills to encourage their team members and showing sportsmanship
during and after the game. Plus, who doesn't love kickball?
On Friday, students
brought home a list of consumable items that are needed for our STEM Olympics.
We are beginning the STEM Olympics planning stage today, where students
are sketching out their designs. Once students finish their designs for
each Olympic event, students are needing to bring materials to school to create
their designs. Please send any materials you would like to donate for the
Olympics. We appreciate any donations. Thank you!
Lastly, feel free to
visit our classroom blog often. This is my main form of parent communication,
so please visit our blog. There are
other ways to communicate with me or with our class:
