Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all!  For me, it is more like "Happy Black Friday Day!"  Either way, I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday weekend and eat plenty of turkey with your family.

I wanted to inform you about a few things that have been happening in our classroom and any upcoming things that your child will be doing.  First and foremost, all of the 6th graders are wrapping up their book clubs today.  Each 6th grade group has been reading books that share the common theme of tolerance.  The students have worked hard reading, journaling, using literature circle roles, and sharing their thoughts.  We have noticed a tremendous improvement when "sharing" their thinking as they have progressed through their books.  Students are now discussing more rather than just listening to their peers.  Next week, students will be working with their book club and will be creating a book trailer that they can share with the rest of the 6th graders.  This assignment will be due at the end of the week and we will have a "sharing day" of all our trailers.

In social studies, we are wrapping up our unit on Ancient Egypt.  Students will be having their assessment on this chapter on Wednesday, December 2nd.  I was going to hand out their study guide for the test on Monday so they could enjoy the holiday weekend, but many requested it early.  They are such eager beavers!!!!  The study guide is coming home today, so your child can begin filling that out and studying for the test on Wednesday.

We have finally finished our presentations on the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World!  Yah!!!!  I must say I have been quite impressed with the students' work toward these projects.  Many students chose to complete a 3-D project while others created a digital one.  The 3-D ones were quite impressive; I see some engineers in the future!
