Final Week of the 1st Quarter

Howdy Folks!
We are finishing up our first quarter of the 2015-2016 school year.  It has flown by that even the students agree.  Report cards will be sent home on Monday, November 2nd, with parent/teacher conferences following later that week.

In regards to parent/teacher conferences, a form was sent home on Thursday explaining the steps of setting up your child's conference online.  Please refer to that letter and sign up for conferences beginning today.  Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

This week, October 20th-23rd, is "Character Counts Week."  We value good character at Howard-Winneshiek Schools!  To celebrate Character Counts (and Red Ribbon Week) we will be having color-themed dress-up days.  We encourage you to get excited along with your children, and have conversations about what it means to be a person of character and to be drug free.

Tuesday, October 20th: Respect Each Other and Team up Against Drugs!
It is also close to Red Ribbon Week, so what better way to start off Character Counts Week than by celebrating being drug free and respecting others and ourselves! Students are encouraged to wear yellow for Respect!

Wednesday, October 21st: We Pledge to be Responsible:  Our Future’s so Bright, We Gotta Wear Shades!
Students are encouraged to wear green for responsibility and sunglasses this day to show our passion for learning and responsible choices!

Thursday, October 22nd: We Care About Each Other At Howard-Winn: Warm Hearts and Warm Hands
Show your caring super power!  Be a hero and wear red to school! Donate new hats and mittens to our Warm Hearts Makes Warm Hands donation box located in the Crestwood Elem./Jr. High.

Friday, October 23rd: Give me a “T” for Trustworthy!
Show your school spirit by wearing your Cadet Blue!  True Blue for Trustworthiness through and through!

Character Counts Citizenship Project for 2015: There will also be a winter warmth donation box at the Crestwood Elementary/Jr.High School building October 20th- 23rd.  Please help your students donate new hats and/or mittens/gloves that will help support Howard-Winneshiek families throughout the cold winter season.  Thanks for the continued support!

If your child has not mentioned already, we have a social studies test on the first civilizations.  He/she does have a study guide that will be helpful to study for the
                               test on TUESDAY!  Study away!

Lastly, students have recently been introduced to a
research project for social studies.  Students are to research and create a project and presentation on one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient World.  The project is not due until November 5th, but please check on your child's progress on this project. Thanks!

Feel free to contact me any time.  Please continue to follow our class on Twitter and the class blog page.  I will continue to use the blog page as a place to check if any upcoming homework assignments will be coming due.
