March Has Been Busy!

Hello all!  Aren't you just loving this weather?  I am getting spring fever big time, but I am sure I will be hit with reality later this week.  Anything is better that 20 degrees, right?

We should all celebrate as your child just finished the Iowa Assessments last week!  Woot!  Woot!  The class was very RELIEVED to be done with the tests.  The 6th graders did try very hard so I am anxious to see how they all performed.  I can't wait!  To celebrate the Iowa Assessments being completed, the elementary students will be having the "Big Blast" (finally!) on Friday, March 20th.  What a great way to unwind and have fun!

The 6th graders have been learning about the Holocaust in literacy.  We have read picture books, watched videos, researched it, and are currently reading a book club book related to the topic of the Holocaust or World War II.  On Friday, the book club reading needs to be completed.  The following Friday, March 27th, the book trailer needs to be completed.  The book trailer is to be created with your child's book club group, where the work for the trailer needs to be done at school.  There is one other project that is also due on Friday, March 27th.  Your child has the "Holocaust Symbolism" project due.  Students are asked to create a symbol that can represent the Holocaust in some way.  The creation must take the form of a 3-dimensional sculpture (mobile, sculpture, architectural design, etc.).  Students will also need to explain the meaning of their symbol and what they were attempting to convey.  Along with the 3-dimensional sculpture, students are also asked to write a well-written paragraph explaining their symbol.  If you have any questions, please contact me.

Lastly, report cards will be sent home on Thursday, March 19th.  Please review the information with your child and discuss the results.  Also, please remove the report card from the envelope, sign it, and return it to school as soon as possible.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns on your child's report card.

Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. McCarville
