Last Week of the 1st Quarter

Can you believe we are in our last week of the first quarter?  It seems like it was not that long ago we were just starting school and now we are already a quarter of the way done!  Since it has been a few weeks since I have blogged (I know...I know), I wanted to highlight events coming up!

Report Cards:
Being that we are finishing up with our first quarter of school, that means report cards will be just around the corner.  Report cards will be sent home on Thursday, October 27th, so please be watching for your child's report card.  Thanks!

Conference Scheduler: 
Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Tuesday, November 1st and Thursday, November 3rd.  When scheduling parent-teacher conferences, please sign up with your child's homeroom teacher only.  Unfortunately, we cannot meet with all of the 6th-grade parents.  However, if you have a concern with your child's progress in science/socials studies or math, please feel free to contact Mrs. Fretheim (science/social studies) or Mr. Sorenson (math), to discuss any concerns.  If you have not signed up for conferences online, please do so or call Linda at the office to set up a time.  Thank you!

Character Counts Week:
Character Counts Week will take place this week.  A letter was sent home regarding this event.  We value good character at Howard-Winneshiek School District!  To celebrate this, we will be having themed dress-up days.  We encourage you to get excited along with your children and have conversations about what it means to be a person of character.  Also, we are having a Character Counts Citizenship Project for 2016.  Please help your child donate non-perishable food items during Character Counts Week to help support Howard-Winneshiek families throughout the winter season.  Thanks for all your continued support!

Tuesday 10/18^th Wild About Character Counts!  Get your jungle tiger on! Please come dressed in wild prints, animal logos, clothing that gives you jungle fever! No place in the wild to hide that Cadet Pride!

Wednesday 10/19^th Citizenship Day at Howard-Winn!  Come dressed in USA-themed clothing.  Stars, stripes, red, white, and blue!

Thursday 10/20^th Pursue your Passion!  Come dressed in your future career!  Rise to the occasion and share your career pathway choice during Character Counts Week!

Friday 10/21^st Give me a “T” for Trustworthy and an “R” for Responsible! Show your school spirit by wearing your Cadet Blue!  True Blue for Trustworthiness, and being Responsible for showing Cadet Pride!

Meal Packaging:  
On Thursday, October 20th, the 6th-grade students will participate in meal packaging for the "Meals from the Heartland" program.  Students will work together and pack meals for places that are in need of meals.  Please take a peek at the video that explains the program's purpose.  Please copy (or click) this link and watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56ManaL5_48

Picture Retakes:
Picture retakes will take place on Tuesday, October 25th, so please send your child's envelope/pictures to school that day.  Thanks!
