Busy Week Ahead

Hello all!  What an absolutely gorgeous weekend we had!  I am sure the students will be in "Spring Fever" mode.  Who am I kidding.....I will be too!

We have a busy week coming up and will continue to stay busy from here on out.  We will take our spring MAPS assessments this week.  On Monday, students are going to look at their test scores from fall and winter, and we will discuss setting goals for the tests for the spring.  Students will be setting individual goals, and they are also working on a whole 6th grade goal.  MAPS testing will take place Tuesday-Thursday this week.  We strongly encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep and to have a good breakfast the morning of the test.  Also, please discuss the importance of trying hard on these tests with your child.  Due to MAPS testing, I have asked the students to bring their I-pad chargers to school on MONDAY.  The I-pads will remain at school on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for testing.  Please have your child plan accordingly for these changes.

We continue to learn about the Holocaust in literacy.  Students continue to research different topics on the Holocaust and will soon be starting book clubs on the Holocaust.  We have been looking at various primary and secondary sources on Kristallnacht, of the "Night of the Broken Glass," and have just started discussing anti-Semitism and Nazi propaganda.  The students are very interested in this topic and have a lot of questions about what we are learning.  Feel free to ask them about what they have learned about the Holocaust.

Last week I sent home the last book orders for the year.  Whoa!  Scary!  The book orders will be due on Friday, April 22nd.  If you choose to send a check, please make checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs.  Thank you!

Plans are becoming finalized for our final field trip for the school year.  The field trip will take place on Thursday, May 12th.  Look for upcoming notes or blog posts regarding the field trip.  We will be looking for parent volunteers that would be willing to help us out that day.  Look for that note coming home soon!  Thanks!

Please contact me with any questions or concerns.  Have a wonderful week!
