Next Week in 6th Grade

Hey all!  On Friday, I sent home a note to all 6th grade students so I am highlighting some of the same information and adding a little bit more.  Next week will be a busy one in the 6th grade classrooms.  Here are some of our upcoming events.

MAPS Testing: MAPS testing will take place on Tuesday, February 9th, and Wednesday, February 10th.  We strongly encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep and to have a good breakfast the morning of the test.  Also, please discuss the importance of trying hard on these tests with your child.  Due to MAPS testing, we are asking your child to bring his/her I-pad charger to school on MONDAY.  The I-pads will remain at school on Monday night and Tuesday night for testing.  Please have your child plan accordingly for these changes.

Valentine’s Day: Your child has the option to bring valentines in to class.  If your child chooses to bring valentines, he/she MUST bring valentines for his/her homeroom class. Valentines will be exchanged on Friday, February 12th.  Again, this is not required, but if your child chooses to bring valentines, he/she must have
valentines for his/her homeroom class.

Chariots: The sixth graders will be using Friday, February 12th, as the final day to construct their chariots.  Friday will be the last day they can work on the chariots during class time.  If your child is in need of materials to construct the chariot, please see that he/she brings the materials by Friday.  Here are a few photos from the progress so far.

Global School Play Day: The 6th Graders loved having free time on Friday to simply play!  Many chose to play dodge ball in the wrestling room, tumbling in the wrestling room, football outside, game boards or card games in the classroom, or even some arts and crafts.  It was great seeing so many students enjoy the free time.

Parent/Teacher Conferences: Parent/teacher conferences will take place on Monday, February 22nd and Thursday, February 25th.  These conferences will be student-led conferences, so your child will NEED to attend conferences with you.  Being that conferences are student-led, scheduling conference times can be flexible.  For example, conference times can overlap and more than one conference can take place at one time.  You can begin signing up for conferences on Monday, February 8th.   If you prefer a time that is not available, please contact me to arrange a time that works.

Please contact me with any questions/concerns.  Have a great weekend!

Mrs. McCarville
