Hello all! I hope that your child enjoyed his/her day off today. We, the teachers, were busy collaborating with other districts in our area and were able to learn many new things from those educators.
Our first field trip will take place on Thursday, September 24th. We will be traveling to the Nature Center for Environmental Awareness Day. Students will attend sessions like: Fish Identification and Ecology, Water Testing, Orienteering, Team Building, and many other environmental sessions. We will be leaving the school at 9:15 AM and returning to school at 2:00 PM. Most students chose to bring their own sack lunch. However, I am encouraging all students to bring extra water to drink. Because we will be outside for majority of the day, students should also dress in layers and wear tennis shoes.
We have recently wrapped up a mini-unit on characterization in literacy. The students watched
the movie "Remember the Titans" and were to identify character traits, changes in characters, and various literary terms such as protagonist and antagonist. The students really enjoyed the lessons and the movie. The theme of the movie will tie into our first theme of our book clubs: tolerance and acceptance. Look for more information about book clubs in the upcoming weeks.
Lastly, please check (or continue to check) your child's planner. Many students are receiving "minor" behavior reports due to late or incomplete homework. The students are to write their assignments in their planners daily, with due dates included. Please ask to see your child's planner to look at any assignments that are due. I will also begin posting any upcoming due dates for any assignments or projects on the blog page. Please use this as another resource to check when assignments are due.
